The Piedmont room is a hideaway with a striking neoclassic spirit. This 600-square-foot penthouse suite features custom-made furniture and plush, sophisticated decor influenced by the 18th century Biedermeier style. This suite is completely private, as it is the only room located on the third floor and has been the choice room of celebrities and politicians alike. The Piedmont features a king-size canopy bed and full living room with a hide-a-bed sofa and desk. Comfy bench seats under vintage diamond-paned windows in this suite provide guests with an outstanding view of our city landscape. The en-suite private bath consists of a large whirlpool tub and step-in shower.

Built in 1907 as the private residence of Henry Fries Shaffner, the co-founder of Wachovia Loan and Trust, this extravagant Victorian-style mansion boasts Tiger oak hand-carved paneling, original coal-burning fireplaces, a grand staircase and priceless antiques. It is perfect for quiet nights away or corporate and private events. Located in downtown Winston-Salem, it is walking-distance to a multitude of the city’s best restaurants, bars and shops.

The Shaffner has retained historic charm while expanding to include modern amenities such as free WiFi, 43” smart, flat-screen TVs, alarm/clock and USB charging stations. For your convenience, we also provide complimentary face wash, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, as well as an iron, ironing board, and hairdryer. In addition, you will have access to comfortable common areas indoors and outdoors, as well as a private parking lot.
