The Tanglewood room is located on the second floor and features a queen-size bed. As with any room in our inn, the Tanglewood has a unique personality with exposed brick and ivy wallpaper and provides a cozy atmosphere overlooking our second-floor veranda- with a spectacular view of the city landscape. The en-suite bath features a shower and pedestal sink. This room can become a two-room suite when joined with the Salem room, if you are traveling with family or friends.

Built in 1907 as the private residence of Henry Fries Shaffner, the co-founder of Wachovia Loan and Trust, this extravagant Victorian-style mansion boasts Tiger oak hand-carved paneling, original coal-burning fireplaces, a grand staircase and priceless antiques. It is perfect for quiet nights away or corporate and private events. Located in downtown Winston-Salem, it is walking-distance to a multitude of the city’s best restaurants, bars and shops.

The Shaffner has retained historic charm while expanding to include modern amenities such as free WiFi, 43” smart, flat-screen TVs, alarm/clock and USB charging stations. For your convenience, we also provide complimentary face wash, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, as well as an iron, ironing board, and hairdryer. In addition, you will have access to comfortable common areas indoors and outdoors, as well as a private parking lot.
